Unbelievable. I could swear that just yesterday Sarah (my 2 year college roommate) and I were with our families in Oxford. We spent that Sunday afternoon packing, throwing old papers and such away. In between what seemed to be thousands trips to the car, Sarah and I timidly approached my mom and dad to ask if she could stay with us this summer while working in Columbus. Not surprisingly they responded quickly, “Of course!”
Now, Sarah has been here long enough to know how the Zirger household works. It pretty much functions under 2 rules. Tell someone roundabouts when you will be home and put your dishes IN the dishwasher. In plenty of houses the sink will suffice as the dishes “soak”—not in mine. Additionally (although not a rule) dinner is usually a family thing. We sit and eat together, whether that be 6 pm, or 8. However, if you find yourself starving making yourself a meal is ABSOLUTELY acceptable, provided that dad knows and isn´t planning to chef something extravagant.
Living with Sarah O. for the past 2 years in Oxford was great—but we were such BUSY BUSY girls. Now, it is nice to have the evenings to hang out. Currently, the tradition is dinner, other little errands / tasks and then a race for Harry Potter upstairs (On Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, again—book 7). Of course we have read ALL of Jo Rowling´s HP series, but they are good enough that they can be read again. Doubt me? Laughing, are you? Well, I´ll have you know that the New York Times Bestsellers list had to be broken into genres because The Potter series held the top four spots (for much time) and wouldn´t budge! First it was book 1. Then book 2. Next 3. And then came 4, following in the footsteps of books 1,2 and 3. The fourth book (and year 4 of school for Harry) sat on top of the bestsellers list week in and week out, along with it´s formers: 1,2, and 3, as other publishers and authors became frustrated (perhaps even defeated?). As such, they decided to break up the list into genres to give a chance to others. My point? The Harry Potter series is legit. If you haven´t read it, give it a chance. It is story of good overcoming evil and conquering tough trials. It is about friendship, and love. That being advertised it is not ALL serious! Jo often writes with wit and in a light-hearted tone. Really, if you haven´t, try one! (Probably the first or you might be lost—although I concede it is not my favorite one). How will you know until you have read one?
I know that the weather doesn´t show, but summer is slipping away. Beyond this awareness that the summer is fading, having my roommate reunited with me, and my pleas that you give Harry Potter a chance (if you have not done so already) I have not much else to report. (Well I do, but it will be included in the Chicago blog…). Ah, and the plantar faciitis is still here. I am taking care of it to the best of my ability. In about 3.5 weeks time I have run about the same number of times I did in a week—although lesser mileage. Rest is CRUCIAL, for some more than others, but my doctor DOES say that trying to run at a nice easy pace may be alright. I´m also starting Physical Therapy Monday and praying it will assist in the wait. I pray soon my plantar fascia will start to heal and feel loads better!
